The key is layering! On our coldest days, I can get out there with a good base layer (Long Johns/Under Armor), good socks, a warm shirt, sweat shirt hoodie, my insulated bibs, and I bring the carhartt jacket in case it gets any colder. I also bring a pair of sweat pants to put on as well if it's that cold. If that doesn't get me warm, I have a set of the Frogg Toggs ultralight rain gear to put over all of it. The Frogg Toggs will cook you if you aren't careful, they are great at cutting rain and wind. No moisture in and no moisture out, so be careful about how sweaty you get.

Good advise, I will have to look at the Frogg Toggs.
