So I ordered some of the Wisper Quiet 22LR bullets and shot a possum right in the head with one. The bullet bounced off. I use 22 Shorts out of a bolt action and it's a kill shot every time.

I don't usually look at the main forum as much, but when I saw the first post about a 2'fer, and having chased coons for a while this year, I couldn't stop myself and read through 212 posts. LOL Some had me chuckling out loud. I quit setting my trap after 13 or 14 coons in a 3 week period a few months ago, and just started putting heavy blocks on my trash can to keep them out. Not the greatest solution, but works for now. I found they would reach through the side of the cage, so I flipped a metal trash can on it's side and slipped the trap in so they had to go through the front to eat. Raisin bread seemed to work well on coons, but any scrap of meat would pull in a coon or possum. I worried about skunks, but never saw one. Something tripped it several times, having grabbed the bait from the back of the trap and got out, but no idea what. Trap wasn't bent up at all, but maybe the latch was just worn out. Since I'm at home and care giver for my elderly mother, I haven't been in my boat this year, but told my wife catching coons was almost as good as fishing. lol

Enjoyed the thread. Hope you get them whittled down enough that they spend some looking elsewhere. I'll have to keep checking for updates on this though.

What a Awesome post! If you saw where I put the Pedal Stop in that is worth doing to your traps. You can only set it with a hair trigger!

I saw that bolt you installed, but I think my trap works a little different. It has openings on both ends, and there's a hook on the top that snags a small piece of metal in the trap door to hold it open. Just a little weight on the trigger plate, and it releases the door to fall. About a year ago I did catch a BIG one in a trap borrowed from a friend, and he rammed his head into one end and bent the vertical rods to the point he escaped. Nothing like that on this trap so far, which is why I was confused how they got out. I may have to start setting it again, just to see what I catch. Still can't go fishing yet, so might as well play at home. lol

    Keep up the good work!

I had a big coon who got out of my trap. I fished around until he found the sliding rod in the front of the cage and got free that way. Coons are way smarter than possums and they will figure it out if you give them enough time. I just found out that we now have a wild hog problem. They seem to like rooting along the back of the community pool. I should not be shocked due to the subdivision backs up to Trinity River bottom land the massive construction that has been going on in this area. I now have to convince the neighbors that they are not satan on hoofs.

How many rednecks does it take to eat a ‘possum?

Two. One to eat and one to watch for cars.

Not baiting the trap right now with the Low sitting right off the Boot Tip of Louisiana. We did have something walk down the Hummingbird feeder Holder Yesterday. It just sticks in the ground but with 2 spikes. Walked it down, knocked both Hummingbird feeders over, getting my attention. It's going to be back on tonight!
