    Default Fall fishing

For those of you that troll for crappie, when in the fall do you go from crankbaits to long lining jigs or other techniques. Does the bite dictate the change or the water temp and weather?

A general rule of thumb I've always heard is start pulling cranks when surface tempatures get to 70 or above. Hang them up when get below 70. That's MS lake's though. I have pulled cranks in early May when surface temp were low to mid 60s and hammered them. I will say in our area most folks are done with crankbaits by the end of September. And there are exceptions to every rule.

we still have lots of roaming fish in Texas , but about nobody trolls for crappie in these parts ,so it would be silly for me to have a clue when you stop or start trolling for crappie based on water temps.
got a report of big slob crappie 5 foot deep in open water on bait not near any cover in water about 15 foot deep just this week
