Looking thru my "stash" (contest winnings, actually) .... I'm inclined to favor the following :

    Mardi Gras/Char (CM)
    Black/Char (CM)
    Chartreuse (CM)

    ShoNuff/Char (Tiny Dancer)
    Isom/Char (Tiny Dancer)

Now, that's just based on the colors/styles that I received in the CM contest package. I've heard good things about Bison & Sowbug, as well. And if they have anything in the Junebug/Chartreuse coloration, I'd substitute it for the Black/Char Crappie Magnet I listed above.

Color choice has been beaten to death. Fact is, the closer a lure is within the visual range of a fish, the more the true hue is seen. But even then does it really matter? A bit of superstition and confidence in what one casts make any color more effective.

One definition of superstition is: a belief that certain events or things will bring good or bad luck.

When I chose a lure, color is a personal thing and a bias based on 1. that color changes underwater depending on water clarity and depth, 2. how a color enhances a lure's shape and action when a lure gets close enough for a fish to notice, 3. superstition.

For example: chartreuse soft plastic lures I believe are enhanced by adding a slash of orange dye on the belly and black on the back just in case a fish might recognize them as yellow perch. My confidence in that color combo is rewarded with many fish caught in different water with various water clarities.

Another is pearl but not based on what fish think it as. The color is reflective and subtle just like most things in nature and enhance the finesse shape and action of lures meant to hold an inactive fish's attention long enough to provoke it to strike.

There are many so called reasons I chose various colors to keep in the boat, but you get the idea. Confidence, past and present catches and a bit of superstition (not prompted by an advertiser) keep color choice simple as well as knowing many colors can catch fish in any water once fish are found.

Crappie Magnet grubs have unique action/shape and are subtle lures used with subtle presentations (retrieves). I would bet any color would do well equally, but the above would affect my choice - superstition at the top of the list.

Here are a few recent catches. Note the various colors - all of which would work on a Crappie Magnet:

Size: 33.4 KBName: IMG_0381.JPG

Note the fl. orange tail couple with a green body, a recent discovery based on color brightness. Why did it do well? Don't know, don't care. Fact: it caught 4 fish species and a dozen of the 60 fish caught that day.
