It’s also a great lure for those new to artificial lures as it only requires casting/reeling, and the fish will pretty much hook themselves. It’ll catch just about everything that swims too.

You can easily swap out jig heads to meet your needs…heavier to cast further or lighter with a smaller lure when you need to pick up smaller bluegill.

I agree with everything you’ve said. One of my favorite lures was always the good ol Johnson Beetle spins. I’ve caught lots of Bass on the 1/4oz white ones and tons of panfish on the 1/16oz yellow ones. I definitely need to pick some up!

That’s awesome and something your son can focus on and be excited for. Wishing you tons of slabs, good times and memories.

Another lure I like to throw is a basic curl tail. 1.5” work well for me and the Mister Twister brand has consistently good action and a few colors that work well for crappie. They also work well on the beetle spin frames and the extra drag of the curl tail lets you work it a bit slower. Don’t pass up the root beer looking color when you shop. Glad that you and the boy are getting all this done for the fishing he loves.

I was going to suggest taking him on a guided trip but it appears you already have that in the works. I am sure he is excited about the trip. My son learned how to fish by me taking him to the creek during the white bass spawn run. He caught plenty of fish and learned how to cast with lures.

I picked up a pack to try out. At the end of our trip I decided to give them a try, after a couple cast and feeling small fish tugging the tail right at the bank I decided to call it a day. My son said to wait a few more minutes because he had one worm left and wanted to use it, So I decided to cast the roadrunner a couple more times and on the next cast I got a little tangle on my line so I cleared that started reeling and what do you know fish on, when I grabbed the fish and my son realized it was much bigger than normal for that spot he was pumped. I started thinking and the first thing I told him was the fish are deeper then we’ve been fishing, I casted again and waited for the little roadrunner to sink before reeling and bam a little bass (still much bigger than what he’s been seeing in that spot) he was pumped and so excited! However we were running late for something and had to leave, next weekend we are gonna fish that spot deeper and he wants his own roadrunner lol.

if you are after sunfish , you should drop them number 4 gold hooks down to a number 8
and for a float , them comal pinch on ones I use are by far the best for short water action
thill makes better ones ,but they cost too much ....
