    Finicky, hot, clear-water black fish.

Saturday is the first day I've been able to catch one on 1/8th since early June, and it's not because I don't like fishing heavy stuff.

I have used medium sized crane swivels to replace split shots. Work very well.

If you are locking the egg sinker on the line in place with the bead and rubber stops it would fish the same as a split shot I would think. Unless you’re casting it hard and slinging the weight down the line. Have you tried just not crimping the split shot so hard on the line?
superdave can you get egg sinkers as small as #7 split shot.

I use the smaller split shot to help slow down the presentation of my jig to his face, the longer I can keep it there the more bites I can get, don’t know where most of the people here live but here in Georgia the crappie wants the jig with a very slow presentation and the way I get that is with the split shot, but it crimps my line to cause it to break at hang ups.

From what I see online #7 split shot is 1/24oz weight. Not sure I’ve seen egg sinker that small.

I would use either a single jig or egg weight and super light jig. I’ve had good luck with egg sinker and then tiny jig. You can control the drop with your line. The tiny jig will swing down slow after the initial drop. Also the more space between the sinker and jig can help slow it. I watch this action on livescope

Water Gremlin makes a 1/16oz rubber core sinker. A little heavier but might work?
