15lb braid to a 10lb mono leader in real clear water. In heavy stained to muddy water I don't use a leader.

Fished braid on my jig rods from the time fireline came out. I fished mono on trolling and nightstalk rods. I went to scoping and did braid with a flouro leader on 10-16ft rods. Scoping is pretty much all I do with the exception of a spring trolling trip with dad a time or two. Those rods still have mono. Fluoro on the long rods took away to tip tangles, and even after years of using braid, I can't tell a difference in bite detection. Some folks claim they can, but I can't. That said, I've got two 10ft rods I cast with, and I'm tempted to try mono on one of them, but the fluoro is working just fine.

Braid and nothing but braid for three reasons:
    1. casting distance of 1/64 oz + plastic lure
    2. strike detection at the longest casting distance
    3. better hook sets no matter the distance or size fish using small gap hooks

8# test braid (KastKing) / 4# diameter super strong when it come so getting unsnagged even if it meas straightening the hook
Today's examples using 1/64 and 1/32 jigs, casting distance 40':

I judge line not only by the largest fish the line prevents breakoffs fighting, but the smallest fish the line can get a good hookset.
It worked well using spincast and spinning reels. Many fish were caught pitching lures to pad pockets and in open water.

    Braid does it all.

I just bought a spool of 6# mono for one of my casting rods to replace the 8# braid. I love the sensitivity of braid but the line twist and wrapping around the rod tip is frustrating. All of my single pole rods have braid, but I may try fluorocarbon.

Hey, Spoony .... if KastKing braid is 8/4, you should try PowerPro. I use the 10/2 version, but started with their 8/1 version.
