From what I see on his minner hooking technique .... is that he's basically hooking the minner "upside down"
If you run the jig hook into the mouth and out like he does, when the jig turns upright (hook point up), then the minner is going to be turned upside down. And you're dang tootin' that minner is gonna be thrashing around, trying to get itself turned upright !!
Late fishing buddy of mine used to hook a minner behind the eyes with his jig, just like we always did when using a plain hook. This put the minner on its side, and it would sure enough struggle hard to right itself. It worked, too !!
