I had just gotten a Pelican sit in canoe. I was in Bayou Sara just paddling along and having a great time. 4 girls in a big ol bow rider boat rounded the bend, saw me, made a course correction brought that boat in around 20 feet cut the power and let that thing flop back into the water. The resulting waves filled said kayak up and down it went. Almost like one of those cartoons. One minute I was sitting on top of the water. The next minute. Neck deep being held up by the paddle vest. Takes a long time to drag an 12' kayak out of the water as it drains through a 1/2" hole. Same kayak different adventure. Was launching into a creek that had a ball 2feet above the water. I decided to do a seal launch. You stow your paddle, get into the kayak as it hangs over the bank just before the balance point. Place your hands on the ground, pick up and lunge forward. You slide off the blank and gracefully into the water executed that move beautifully. Turned back to look at the rest of the group to gloating sing my own praises. As I was not paying attention the current sweeps me into a log and rolls ne over in time to cool off my bragging

Well, I guess it is time for my story. Many years ago, about 15 to 20, The wife and I found this little two man boat at a yard sale. Had a small merc motor. Imagine a sit in jet ski. Just enough room for two adults to sit in. Our daughter was still a small child and would fit between us. Well when running the merc was great and a fun little toy. Unfortunately it had a tendency to suddenly stop, usually after getting to the middle of the lake area. Well, this particular day, We were a little way from the ramp area and it refused to start back up and I proceed to sit on the side and paddle back to the dock area. All the while expressing my distaste and aggravation for said mercury motor. Suddenly, some unseen force pushed me off the side backwards into the water, imagine a scuba diver falling backwards in to the water. It succeeded in stopping my rant and I surfaced to the sound of laughter from the wife and daughter. Daughter still loves to tell the story and laugh at my expense. . Later we decided the little boat would be best sold. Found out the only problem was a small crack in the fuel line. .
I hope this story is long enough!

Back in 2001 I had a Motor Guide trolling motor that had lift problems. The rope had a tendency to break. They had a recall on it best I remember. One day below Pickwick Dam I was lifting motor and the rope broke and I went in the water. Had a ladder on the boat and was able to get back in. The scariest situation I was ever in though was when I rolled a kayak on the Caney Fork River fishing for trout in December. It was a shock when I hit that water. Had to walk out about a mile. Thought I was going to freeze to death.

    Regards

Had an ex girlfriend fall out once in early season. Water temps in the mid 40’s. I had docked the boat and asked her to hold onto the dock while I went to get the truck. I back down the ramp and go walking back to the boat. I see the boat, and 2 guys on the dock looking down at the water but don’t see her. Apparently the boat started floating away a from the dock (which she was supposed to be holding on to) and she tried to pull the boat back to the dock and fell in. So she’s between the boat and the dock. Freezing and soaking wet. She’s a big girl to start with, 300+ but now add soaking wet clothes. Took 3 of us to pull her back up on the dock, then gotta worry about getting her warmed up. That was an adventure for sure. After that she told me if I wanted her to go again I needed a more stable boat. So that was my excuse to upgrade to fiberglass lol

My first boat was a 15ft Skeeter and it had small front deck. I was going alone a shoreline with a 12ft canepole dipping my minnow in out of cover. Trolling motor hits a stump and in I went. Water was only 4ft so getting back in the boat was no big deal. Because of that experience I will not stand on the front of small bass boat to fish. The biggest requirement in buying my current boat was that it be a sit in boat not a sit on deck boat.

I did one time right at the darn boat ramp. Went to step out and next thing I knew I was heading over the side. Got wet, but wasn't deep enough to dunk under. It was summer time, so.......no big deal.

I have a special needs cousin who's a little older than I am (54). He fell out of the boat last March.......his brother got him by the back of the life jacket and kept him from going under, but it was a cold ride back to the boat ramp for them. Scared him pretty bad. We're hoping that he doesn't let it ruin his love for fishing.

That’s why I’m having this same boat built with 60 percent of the front deck removed. It’s plenty deep, no more decks for me.

While shooting docks I stand in the lowest part of the boat a lot of times to get a straighter shot under docks and pontoons. Surely helps being closer to water level

I went over once, it was winter and we were catching 20+ pound Redfish on Fly Rods out in the Marsh in Hopedale La. I had just boated a big Red my client caught and was heading back up on the Poling Platform when it felt like I was launched overboard. Landing on my back is the shallow, sandy bottom, bayou I was back up before the water made it under my jacket. I had to fish the rest of the day in my sock feet and a long sleeve Power-Pole Tee shirt but it beat being wet. The slime on my gloves slipped my fingers right around the pipe I was holding on to climbing up. The forceful leg up sent me back when my hands slipped right into the water.
