Ouch! At the ankle has gotta hurt. Hope there isn't any fin stuck and doctor can get you fixed up nicely. Gotta be careful out there.
I say that every time I head to the lake and most times I am. I got the chance to take Miss Vicki yesterday since it was a beautiful day and she needed to burn some vacation time.
We started pulling Picos and couldn’t keep the 8-9” crappie off our baits. Since the crappie have to be 10” to keep, these little guys were very aggravating.
Vicki caught a nice largemouth then hooked a channel catfish about 6 pounds. She fought it great even though she hates catfish. I netted it and in the process of getting the treble hooks out, it flopped out of my hands. Instantly the pain hit. Bad!
I raised my cargo pants leg up to see blood POURING out of my left ankle. One of the pectoral fins had gone thru my pants and into my ankle. Deep! The blood was very dark so I knew it wasn’t an artery that was involved.
Vicki reluctantly got the pliers and threw the fish back into the lake as I was holding a clean microfiber towel on the wound. She wrapped several towels around my leg and got the bleeding under control. Then I realized I should have checked the fish for broken spines. The wound popped up a knot about the size of a golf ball. We got a large adhesive bandage over the wound but it bled thru it quickly. My tennis shoe was full of blood.
We kept fishing and had an otherwise great afternoon. We caught several more crappie with a few keepers. It was nice to spend quality time with my wife even though she kept saying she felt responsible since she caught the catfish.
When we got home she washed the wound area good and applied antibiotic ointment and a new bandage. This morning the knot is still there but the bandage seems to have confined the bleeding. I’ll be seeing my doctor later today.
I always close my fishing reports with “Let’s be careful out there”. That applies to me too!

Good reminder that we all need to be careful out there. Glad that you and the wife had a good day otherwise. Wishing you a quick recovery.

Dr examined the wound and took a needle and dug around in the clotted blood. She suspects there is something in the wound. I got an antibiotic shot, antibiotic prescription, and sent for x-rays of my leg. I’ll know tomorrow what the X-ray shows. ???
