Default Saltwater fishing around Navarre FL?

Sorry for posting this here, but I didn’t know where the best place would be LOL. I am traveling on business there in late October and thought I would give saltwater try, any advice?

    Thanks

Never fished Florida, but I fish South Carolina surf every fall. Basic spinning gear like a bass or catfish rod/reel will work. I start with a top/bottom rig with 2 hooks and pyramid sinker on bottom. I will post a link to show how to tie them. Super easy. No less than 15 pound test line, as most fish you catch will be toothy.
For bait, sand fleas you dig up on the beach are awesome. You can also use fresh/frozen shrimp, crab, squid, or mullet. Mullet is the bait fish of choice for ocean fish. The frozen stuff works well. Just fillet it and leave the meat side facing out. Make sure no scales cover the barb of the hook. My favorite and most effective bait is FishBites. It a powerbait type product that has a mesh tape type substance in it that holds it on your hook. It’s AMAZING. It outfishes most live bait from my experience. My favorites are the bloodworm and shrimp flavors, but they have it available in almost every flavor.
Any more questions feel free to pm me. I love surf fishing. Been doing it almost 20 years now

Also, your gona wana try and throw it as far out as possible to get past the waves, but most fish are actually caught in troughs between the waves. I usually cast between the first and second breaking waves. The bait gets pushed down in these troughs and it’s like a buffet for the fish. Put your bait in that trough and you will get bit. Also look for color changes in the water. Possibly from a sandbar, or a cloud above making shade in the water. If you can cast near these color changes, you will have a good chance of hooking up.
As for weight on the rig, I usually start with 2 oz and go up if needed. I rarely go less than 2 oz. Used a snap swivel on the bottom of the rig to easily switch weights out. I also prefer a khale hook over other styles. They just seem to have a better hookup ratio with this type of rig.

Here is a few fish from last week in SC

Navarre has a lot of good beach fishing at your fingertips. To catch beach groceries from whiting to pompano to redfish a lightweight rig is a staple setup.
    7’ medium heavy spinning rod
3000 series spinning reel (I use Penn Battles)
    30lb power pro main line
    Egg 1/2-1oz, 1-2oz pyramid sinkers
    Black snap swivel
    20-25lb Seaguar fluoro leader 12”
Owner Mutu Lite #1 circle hook

A great all around bait is FRESH dead bait shrimp. Buy it from a bait shop, not the grocery store. I’m also a longtime user of FishBites. Cut a small piece off and it will serve as a visual attractant in stained water and keep your shrimp on when making longer casts. Pinch off the head and cut it into pieces about the size of your thumb nail-bigger pieces result in bait stealers.

You can use the same setup to cast spoons/lures in the surf while walking the beach. Look for holes and rip currents that hold feeding fish.

Like JMan said, sometimes the best fishing can be 10 yards off the sand if you find the right spot holding fish, not necessarily 100 yards. We have heavy speaking surfcasting gear with rods up to 13’, but that gear has a specific application and not a must-have under many conditions.

if it's the beach you are fond of the surf is ON FIRE before daylight . be very careful about wading out in the water though , there are stupid high numbers of stingrays right where the water touches the sand in the dark .
by the sun up it is over though and to be sure carry a long braid rod , some of them salty fish pull rather ridiculous hard.
steel leader too , the sharks are heavy in the dark not far off the beach , probably after all the stingrays , one thing for certain , pompano , ladyfish , multiple species of edible sharks , whiting , possibly flounder if it's fall and the list goes on will be on the menu if you hit right . lighter surf and high tide will bring it on right before daylight .
only hit one dock there and it was loaded with mangrove snapper and the other species that love to hang around docks as well. met me a super cool lizardfish one visit ....luck to ya .....cut mullet is deadly btw
and strips of fresh pinfish ....super duper bait ....

Good advice so far. The past few years I’ve had good luck using the artificial Voodoo Shrimp made by Egret Baits. I use it under a weighted popping cork. I rig it about 30 “ under the cork and use a small triangle piece of fish bites on the hook.
The voodoo shrimp are a really tough silicone with a nylon mesh core. I’ve caught over 100 sea trout before having to use a new one.
I’m hoping one day they start making crappie lures
