My favorite was when I had a school of over 100 cardinal tetras. They would move in waves, it was mesmerizing to watch.

I did mostly freshwater tanks. The Ph in the well water here allowed me to grow some superior plants, which I traded for tropical fish or feeder fish for my native species tank. I don't keep or raise fish anymore. I've been scuba diving for 30 years to get my marine species fix. I'm convinced that watching fish react and interact in their native environment underwater has helped me become a better fisherman.

Triggers are pretty tough characters, they can sure incinerate a gold fish into a golden pink cloud in a second or 2 ….
Never kept a mantis shrimp , most of my predators all required dedicated just to them tanks , gets pretty complex and difficult to run that many tanks at a time just for fun you know.
Did keep a few baby groupers, scorpion fish , lion fish and puffers together for a while in a 100 gallon, they were all lil ones and got along pretty well …

Coolest thing I ever saw, a baitshop somewhere up around TN line used to have aquariums, had a sauger about 6 inches long. Forget where it even was, but I’d like to do that!

Feathercraft has a pickerel in a 20 gallon tank that they've had for a long, long time. Very cool fish if you don't mind a one fish tank. Should be fun watching those little ones grow up, certainly look like gills but might have one or two that might be something else. They all look alike when they are small. Pet shop had a small gar in a tank when I was growing up. Talked my buddy into sticking a finger in the tank to see if it would bite him. It did.. Fun memories.

often times a tank is a one fish tank if it has a predator in it , once put 3 Oscars in a tank and about 3 months later i was down to one .....

Had some Oscars at one time that were big enough to fillet. Put two smaller ones into the bigger one's tank in an attempt to breed them and he gave them a small corner of the tank. Anytime one would attempt to leave the corner they got hammered. After a couple days of this I took them out, minus some scales. I'm sure he would have killed them eventually. They sure loved night crawlers.
