I set the trip when I pulled outa yard this am. Sooooo
let me tell ya about my adventure!!! My friend bought an 03 ranger 522. It needed a carpet upgrade so he dropped it off in Birmingham area to get it recarpeted. Friends take care of friends so I volunteered to pick it up and drop it off to him in Grenada. As stated I left at 6am and trucked it up to the ham. Birmingham to be proper. Picked up the 522. Drooled a bit and headed west. I stopped before Tuscaloosa. ( GODS COUNTRY). College football fans will appreciate that comment. Gassed up checked tires and hubs. Big OK everywhere. I’m paranoid about pulling an older boat 4-8 hrs so I load an impact, Floor jack and sockets at 5 am this morning. I cleared T town and was trucking up 82. Watching the tires every five minutes or so. Lawty. I look out the drivers side mirror and the hub is sending a smoke signal and the front tire is wobbling. Look at traffic and ease over. I get out and traffic is running 70 plus, no way I’m working on it with traffic running that fast so I ease up to the local dollar general parking lot. I get the tire off let the jack down and the axle has the jack pinned down. Oh boie. I snatch and pull to no avail. Two nice gentlemen come out of the dollar gentry. Pull down and ask if I could use some help. I respond I need to get jack out from under axle and they offer to help me use their ratchet straps to tie the axle up. After thanking them I limp to performance marine in Columbus. Ms. Supper nice people put no hub for a 522. He advised me to keep it under 45 and limp on to Grenada on one tire. Well here I go stopping frequently to check hub temp. It’s a long ride to Nader running 45 with flashers on. I call ahead and the pit crew is waiting on me when I get to camp.
