INDEED !!
Wifey just told me it was National Purple Heart Day. Anyone know someone who has received one. I do, well kinda, he actually received many. And I know he don't want to let on, but thank you for your service and your sacrifice, to everyone who has.
Yes Thank you!
Matter of fact I have my grandfather’s Purple Heart and a piece of the shrapnel they pulled from him in WWII.
Yes indeed, I know of a few PurpleHeart recipients. I thank them and all Recipients for their Service, and Sacrifices to this Great Nation.
Proud to have served with and supported the Units I was in: 1st IDF, 9th INF, 558th USAAG (Greece), 7th Transportation Brigade, 6th MEDSOM (Korea), III Corp, 8th IDF, 3rd Armor Div.

I know, and have known several, some have passed away, but the one closest to me was my father. What is funny about it is I had no clue until many years after his death. He was in WWII and as many know that generation did not talk about the war much. He died at the age of 54 in 1967. I was not aware of anything he did in the war until my moms death in 1994. In going through her things after her passing I found my dads DD 214. I wish he had been more conversant about his military service.
Regards

My grandmother had a cedar chest that was off limit to pilfering grand kids. There was a gold metal planter on top with a hand made dolley underneath the planter. I always wanted to know what was inside that chest. Grandma had lost a son in WW II I never knew him but my dad and him were really close. Before Grandma passed she had things fixed where the Government would get nothing. Grandma always stated that the government took her son and that was all they would get. When the chest was opened after her passing all of the letters that her sons sent her while serving our Country. Also inside the chest was her deceased sons belt, hat, new testament, his medals, the flag that was on his coffin and his Purple Heart. During the settlement of her estate I was able to get all of the things in that chest. I am so proud to have these possesions. My grandma lived to be 88 before her passing I cannot imagine how many tears she shed over that chest. From the time the family was notified of his death in Southern Italy it was over two before his body was returned home.
