Thought for a second you were out today. Certainly were some bad storms that way this morning
Got out just after sun up yesterday. Was a very nice morning with light wind and not a lot of traffic. Surface temp around 81 degrees to start the day. I ran my usual circuit on Soddy lake and it was very nice just to be on the water. Decided to hit a bridge first before the boat traffic picked up. While I had a few light nibbles nothing came in to say hi. A fellow fishing from the bank said he had caught 3 of various species. After about an hour more boats arrived to fish the area and while I was there no one was catching. I decided to move along....I Fish alone! LOL . As I I started to move toward my next area I decided to throw out a crank bait and troll a little since the spot I was headed to was close. Now trolling is not a big thing on my to do list but seeing several on my graph I thought I would play with it. I was moving about 2 mph at idle. Well as I was stuffing my face with a snack I was interrupted by a noise from the trolling rod and looked to see it bending and trying to leave the holder! I grabbed it and pulled in a bass! .
Later I managed to hook another bass but it was reluctant to visit me and jumped out of the water and spit the jig back at me. By now it was hot and pleasure boaters were out in force. So it was time for this old fellow to head home. Back at the ramp after putting boat on the trailer a gentleman asked me if I could help him with understanding the new to him the boat he was trying out for the first time. it was his first boat and he had questions about the drain plugs. I gave him what little advise I had and things worked out for him.
I was a bit surprised he asked me for help when there were many others with modern craft more like his than my little tinny. But he and his wife thanked me for the help and went off to enjoy the day.
I never thought I would look forward to fall and winter fishing! Have fun y'all

Glad you got out and had some fun. A couple of green ones to play with is better than a day of wishing. As for the folks seeking advice, it might be that you were the most sensible looking of those available. Not everyone with a big boat has the attitude that some have. Thankfully.
