Default Buck’s Gold Jig Pole Review

I recently was given the opportunity to test and review the 10’ BnM Bucks Gold Jig Pole. When I first received it, I noticed the beautiful colors of the rod and the nicer components on it. This clearly was a step up from the regular Buck’s Jig Pole. I assembled the two piece rod and twitched it some to get a feel. Ooohh, it felt a little whippy from what I’m used to for a jig pole. I kept an open mind and fished it.

I’ve fished it almost every weekend for two months now. The rod is lightweight, smooth and sensitive. It’s also very durable. I caught and landed a nice catfish and even though the rod doubled over and I thought would snap, it held and did wonderfully. Really, every fish is a joy to catch on this rod as it makes them all seem huge. Buck’s Gold Jig Pole is a very fun rod to fish.

For jigging brush and structure I do use a stiffer rod to help pull the fish out of the cover. But by having the stiffer rod and heavy line you horse the fish and it loses much of the fight. Buck’s Gold Jig Pole keeps the fight in the catch and it’s a blast. Personally, I like this rod more for casting and general fishing. The rod casts decently and to me is ideal for fishing Road Runners. It’s fun to cast and hook up with a fish which gives you plenty of time to enjoy the fight and catch. It’s a welcomed change from just yanking them out of the water.

Overall, if you like Buck’s Jig Pole then Buck’s Gold Jig Pole is a nice quality step up. It fishes good, is lightweight and gives a sporty chance to the fish. Give it a try, you might find it’s golden!

What reel are you using on the rod, Dave ?? I have one, but don't have a reel that balances it. Even my heaviest spinning reels still fall short of balancing the rod and leave it tip heavy.

Like you, I was surprised at how limber it felt, even though it's a IM8 blank. I guess I was just expecting it to be a little stiffer, being a IM8 rod.

I currently have a Daiwa Regal 1000 on it. Very smooth reel which I like since I’m casting with it usually.

Took picture of where it balances and to me it doesn’t really seem tip heavy enough that I notice it when fishing. I do notice how smooth the reel is…lol.

Nice looking rod. Bought my wife the "pink" BGJP when they came out. I used it more than her.

I’m with you Dave. I’ve been entrusted with a ten and twelve and everyone here know that this time of year I’m busy with the bluegill and ultralight bite. I’ve used the ten foot so far for jigging bridge piling and will say that I like it as much as my Sam’s I’ve been using for years, maybe a little more. Bluegill taps don’t slide by unnoticed, and the backbone it has is plenty for the 15” bass I happened on while dipping. I really enjoy this and expect the 12’ will be even a bit better when I try some Whitey Outlaw style fishing the floating weeds that frequent the river these days. Very impressed, and I dont say that often for the long sticks.
