    Default Purple And Chartreuse

I have heard several times this past weekend about the effectiveness of a crappie jig that has a purple head, purple body and chartreuse tail. I’ve never fished one but I’m seriously thinking about tying up some and giving them a try. Fishing here, under all this hot, dry weather has been pretty slow lately. The fish are there but getting them to hit is another story. Our water on the Tugaloo side of Lake Hartwell on the SC/Ga border is crystal clear. It rarely gets stained and never muddy. So, does water clarity effect how useful a Purple and Chartreuse would be here? What do you guys think? Get busy tying or forget about it?

I met a member a few years ago, crip47, that said that was the only color combination he and his wife used. They had had great success with it.

CDC member Nimrod use to almost exclusively use purple chartreuse tube jigs. He’s been using hand ties lately but for years put a hurt on them with it. I’ve used it some and it does work and my suggestion would be try a few and see. Wouldn’t hurt anything.

junebug type colors are right popular amongst many a crappie angler , some swear by it and to be sure I have seen folks tear them up using it.
rarely use that color combo myself though .

Purple with chart tail is one of my favorite walleye colors, i catch accidental crappies on them often.

I use purple and chartreuse in low light, stained water and in the winter when I'm fishing 20' to 30' fow. I have done really well on the first one when it clearer water with the sun was out this year. Clear water here is 1' to 2' of visibility. We make all of our own baits so we do different shades of purple also.Name: IMG_20230718_182431442.jpg

My personal best 16" and 2.45lbs came on a Southern Pro purple and chartreuse tube jig.

Purple /chartreuse is my nephews favorite. I think that is mostly all Nimrod uses. I find it to be a great color also. 1.5 inch southern pro tube.

I seldom use tubes. Just a personal choice thing. I trolled cranks for a few years when I lived in TN and a few colors/combinations showed as better than the rest and I always put them in my spread. The style of bait can sometimes make colors work better than others. Purple/chartreuse, solid black, mistake, and a pink that’s now discontinued from Bandit are always in my spread and always produce when others do nothing. The purple/chartreuse crank that worked best for me was a Bill Norman that resembled a bandit 300 and had a super fine glitter in the purple. I always bought extras, wish I’d done that with the pink I spoke of.
