Default It Was One of Them Mornings

It had been a good month or so since I got the boat wet and with my nephew getting his 1st rod for his bday I had no excuse not to get out! With these 100 degree days in Oklahoma the goal was to get out early, hit it fast, hard and then get out before we melt.

The day started at 4:30am and we were on the road by 5:00am. We were making excellent timing just to realize I got everything loaded but my phone. Had to turn around to get it which threw us off 45 minutes. Got to the lake at 7:30am. Launched the boat, got to the 1st pile and knew it was going to be great day as the screen showed blobs over and around the pile. Best part, the pile wasn't loaded with bait fish like last two times out which killed the bite.

From 7:30 - 9:30 it was lights out every pile we went to. At one part I didn't know if I could keep up with it all as with kids in the boat you're going to be doing some retying so I had to finally put the phone down. To make it better, the crappie were angry and putting up one heck of a fight. We swore we kept hooking up with a bass the way they were running with the line and fighting. Lost count how many we caught as well as how many we lost. All crappie were marked safe from crisco bath and were thrown back to see another day.

After 9:30 the bite slowed with around noon was dead. Got off the water by 1:00 and headed home. Was one of the better mornings of fishing that I can remember.

Some of what we were seeing. At one point the crappie moved off the pile and were all under the boat. It’s in the last pic.
