Default My summer time HOT water livescoping

Here lately since the water temps are above 90 degrees the fish have moved from the timber to the edge of the river channel with brush coming up to the thermocline, usually 50-80 ft deep, with brush coming up to the top of thermocline if you can find the ones that’s holding fish, then when you do you drop your jig down to them some of them run up to the jig, but will not take it, you change to smaller jigs, colors, profiles, minnows size of jig heads, line sizes for proper fall, add lead to the jig, take it away. Then they just start swimming off towards the next tree, or just pull off about 20 feet from it. Can anyone out there help me. Very frustrating, 100 degree weather is pretty tough to stay out there, go out from daylight to about 11:00, lots of money spent on gas with not enough crappie to show for it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Im assuming it's a fairly clear lake if they're that deep. Sounds similar to my home lake. If that's the case, welcome to summer time fishing. Ive noticed two things when fishing in the summer. It's TOUGH as it gets all year on deep clear lakes, and HOT on some of the shallower, stained to muddy lakes. Some of the shallower stained/muddy lakes you can go to a brush pile and catch fish until you're tired of catching on some brush piles, but the deeper clear lakes it's tough.

My home lake is the tough lake. Similar things happen. Right now I'm fishing around 30-40ft deep. I stay 40-50ft back and cast to the brush to start with and slowly work my way closer to the fish once they somewhat shut down so to speak, and I have nothing to lose. I can usually pick a few more off deeper in the brush or under it at that point.

Same thing though, doesn't matter the color, size, presentation, etc, most of them will look at it, and maybe nip, and not commit to it. I'm talking fishing tiny, short baits as well. Sure you'll catch a few but it's tough. A fellow forum member just texted me similar troubles a few minutes ago on my home lake. Also had the same conversation saturday with a guy. All of use experiencing the same thing.

Downsize your bait. During the summer I use 1 to 1.5 inch plastic baits. The crappie in my home lake do not want a large bait in the summer. They are alot more aggresive with small baits.

micro size the jig and tip it with a berkley gulp brand crappie nibble
AND don't JUST stare at the screen and watch fish that swim up and SEEM to just look
WATCH your line closely and use sensitive equipment .....
MANY times those fish that appear to be ONLY looking ALREADY ate your jig and are just sitting there with it in their mouth
that's a summer time LS bigtime mistake I see when I pitch jigs over an LS unit on some folks boats ...
summer fish are tough sometimes and spooky and act odd , but those that look really close at your jig....
have often times already got it in their mouth
you cannot possibly imagine all the fish over LS I have ripped when folks said this about that ,,,,,
there he is just looking at your jig and won't commit ...
....WHEN I SET THE HOOK ....
