    Default Returning to the Brook

Many would tend to think since it's a 10 minute drive , the "Brook" would be my baby ...ie .....Home lake ....
Full of timber and white crappie, black crappie and mohawks too , and for sure a sling festival if you know the lake
But it saddens me to say the new wore off and I have not been there in several years ...
Fast forward to last night and the text says hey you wanna hit the "Brook" tomorrow ?
Wife started asking questions and I thought careful with your answers mister ....
Said we are going to the "Brook" tomorrow to ketch a few !
She didn't protest very much , but the threshold thing became a bit of a nuisance
Off I went at 6 to meet at 630 , he wanted launch on the farthest point from me . We loaded up at about 7 and used his SI and LS and our general knowledge of the water body and proceeded to play let's ketch them...
the particulars that I found interesting that with no thermocline and really deep water , NO crappie were in them deep waters ....!
All the best spots were in 15 or shallower for the most part and most fish were down on the trees about 2/3 of the way down .
Bites were odd and reminded me of the back when over there , whatever your desires in a bite is what the next drop will likely be ....
We found fish all over piles and trees and on lots of places there were hundreds of unders all stacked around stuff .
Had to work for a decent one and keep moving , but it was pretty nice and we left before lunch . too hot to keep going ....the bite was still good ...
thats my story and I am stickin it to em ...
    KABOOM
    p. pearl was the color early and after 9 am ....HOT pink was the ticket ...keep in mind you use whatever makes you happy , it is just something we both noticed when I dropped the first one ...fyi

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

It amazes how well a lake like this, can take the onslaught of crappie fisher folks and still produce lots of nice ones year after year , some folks talk about hitting it way way back when and hammering them , never seen a fish over 3 lbs out of there , but to be sure it has a fair number of over 2 lb fish and loads and loads of eater quality fish as well .
to be situated in a big city and get the pressure it gets daily makes you scratch your head as to how it can keep up the pace with the ice chests and livewells full that leave there all the time .

you know sir , I NEVER tried PINK in there before and it was about always the brightest chart I could find as my go to bait . In the spring I like the brightest ORANGE I can use in there , but never have dropped the pink ...sure was an eye opener ...
likely not about the color as much as it's visibility , sure saw tons of fish race at my jig on that LS yesterday when the pink went down , thats a fact
