Good catches. Very nice and even better since it was a cool 102 degrees. Tacos are calling my name for breakfast now….lol. Ah, who am I kidding tacos always calling me. KABOOM
We discussed this lake that neither of us had ever visited before . We thought we knew what we were doing and where we needed to go .
The problem is that where we "thought" we needed to go was like WOW you want $25 to launch the boat and then park the trailer and truck a quarter mile or further away and pay for the parking too ....
So we did some driving instead of ketchn for another 30 minutes or so and found us a beautiful FOR FREE boat ramp a few miles down the lake from our target location .
The lake is a really well known striper lake , it is also a world class diving location too and recreational spot, so we went midweek to avoid all that mess. We know it holds unmolested crappie and in this case MONSTER bluegills that we wanted to go find.
So off we went , we found them in really deep water it seemed to me ,but in that lake 18 to 19 feet deep is shallow water ....
The big bluegill were in that depth range and suspended almost like crappie and we hammered out a nice mess and left well before lunch time , it is some kind of hot around late morning right now in these parts , we had a cool front roll thru and the temps went from 108 to 102 , so no worries ....
it was strange to see bluegill stacked up like crappie for sure and "other" fish bothered us a bit as well , but when you tip a jighead with a worm you can expect the unexpected .
These bluegill seemed to be hanging around swarms of silversides and other fish were in the mix hunting in the crowd as well , saw a monster double digit black bass go right under the boat in that supper clear water and imagine at that size it was after those big bluegill as well .
Them poor defenseless bluegill were just minding there own lil bluegill business until along we came and then about 5pm in the afternoon POOF just like that , bluegill taco season opened and KABOOM is the word ....
p.s. we found crappie as well , but they were safe and NOT targeted this visit .

Think I know that lake, though never fished it. If I’m right, drove around it a little when I was stationed out there.
Has been floated to my wife as a possible retirement area. But that is seeming a dream. Gonna probably stay right here and as the old saying goes, die in the traces (pulling the wagon)

Hells gate is some pricey real estate for sure , bet that place is some kinda hopping on the weekend for sure , here tell it’s on fire partying to the max.
The marina had enough high end rental stuff to sink the average wallet ....never seen so many top notch water craft in rows and rows for rent ...

That looks like Possum Kingdom lake. Haven't been there in years. When I went, drove through Mineral Wells to get there. I remember there was an old hotel there that was the place to stay back in the day long ago. Many celebrities stayed there. I was told that was the first hotel in Texas to have air conditioning. Is it still there?
