Hey Keith, how about getting in touch with Russ from Midwest Crappie and shoot an icefishing crappie video this winter? I'll even come up from PA to help out if you guys need me too. That would probably be the best show or first show, he's ever done on ice. I know a lot of us would love to see that show. What do you guys think?

Those guys are nuts. That ice looks like its less than 1 inch thick.

I took a screenie and you can clearly see the outline of the crappie through the ice.

Good things come to those who bait.

You'll never get Russ on the ice by putting videos like that here for people to see. I love icefishing but no way i'm, or any of my friends, are going on ice that thin. Nice fish but bad choice of videos. JMO

That ice was 4 inches. It was the 1st time out.
We gain almost an inch a day.
Once you get 8" you can drive a 4wheeler on it or a snomobile & once you get 12" you can drive a car on it.
I always go 1st and test the ice with a spud.
I have a rope around me (just in case),but I've never gone in ,knock on wood.
Once we get2 foot you can take a 1 ton truck with a trailer fish house and the ice does not even crack.

True the video makes the is look thin, but it's not.
Good clear ice is very strong.

Yeah hes right. Clear ice is deceiving. Now that I look a little closer I can see how thick it is. Its just that that crappie coming up makes it look really thin. The problem around here is that we get so much snow that the ice is always dicey. It does get thick eventually but the snow makes it hard to judge and people go through almost every year along with trucks snow mobiles and four wheelers. We never get ice like that. 4 inches of ice with 2 feet of snow on it is never going to be uniform. The only time we get bare ice is when the wind blows so hard it blows the snow off the ice, and whats underneath is rotten and rough. Can you see my affection for ice fishing??

Its weird, but the cold doesn't bother me at all. I rarely wear a coat even in the worst of winter. Usually just and insulated shirt and I'm good. I think I have just overdosed on snow and no sun in the winter. There is no way I'm staying here this winter. If it never snowed, but all the lakes froze with clear ice I'd be perfectly happy and I'd probably get out there and fish. I wish I still liked snow, but I just don't. I need clear skies, sun and bare ground. I'm sure that the psycoquacks have a name for what I have. I'm not afraid of snow. I'm just sick of it.

    You got that right Grizz.
I pray for no snow until we get a foot of ice. That way the ice gets a good chance to get good.
Snow is an insulator plus it can get heavy driving water up above the ice making slush. That's no fun to walk in.

If I hear 1 crack under my feet when the ice is new I'm gonzo.
Yet after it gets thick let her crack.
    Watch this video Grizz!
