Degrees outside is my thoughts , or at least some days it feels that way .....
the outside air in these parts can be really brutal ,sometimes it gets to be almost too much to stand.
None the less when its time to go ketchn , someone's got to do it ....
In this case , we left my wife and daughter on the dock in the shade and I went off with my friend to see some of his new ponds he built.
He is 76 and loves to ride his bulldozers and such around and make lakes and ponds , he now has 18 on his property and has one more in the works.
His son said stop it dad that's enough and maybe that is , but with him maybe not as well .....
So as we traveled to and fro on his 500 or so acres and he talked my ear off , the wife and daughter sent me a MILLION pictures of the fish they were ketchn in the shade on the dock...
Now mind you this , I left them with everything to hammer fish in hand with replacement tackle and all the stuff they could possibly need to ketch fish. So after an hour and a bit he finally took me back to ketch a few fish as well .
4 feet down in 5 feet of water the old fashioned way was brutal on them fish , Zebco reels and cheap rods and floats and jigs and tipping said jigs with worms and or crappie nibbles worked quite well.
The bite was VERY soft and often not even noticeable , quite a few big bluegill played let's get ketched too , but it was pretty much when you used a worm tipper on the jig .
We released the fish much to the dismay of my bud who asked if I was cleaning all the fish they ketched while we were gone ....I felt a bit sad when he asked if he could have a few for himself and told him they tossed them all back Buddy .
Asked him if he wanted me to rip a few just for him and he said no, he was only wanting some if I cleaned some .
It could get better I suppose ,but to be very sure of this , them women folks were all smiles and just yucking it up all alone hammering fisheez while I was gone .
Wife made mention of the best time ever and miniKaboom said she ketched her limit too ......
KABOOM is the word btw and yes I ripped them fish too for a short bit myself.
Good times for sure
p.s. best jig was a 1/32 lavender paint on the head white body chart tail for the crappie if in fact color matters .....
BUT some crappie bit on just a worm on a bare beat up pink jighead jig well ....
