I have added hook keepers using a piece of paper clip, wrap with braid and then epoxy.
Thanks for the tips guys. I've got a rod in my garage that i'm going to fix for a buddy.

Note: the further towards the end of the rod, the less likely the nail will work. But as everyone knows me from my fix-it/make-it-better posts, there is a way (like in, where there's a will, there's a way) to maintain rod length though a bit shorter by 1"-2".
I broke a rod 8" from the last guide. Here's the fix that allows maintaining rod action, good hook sets and casting light lures a nice distance.
1. I first put on some Gorilla Super glue on one of the blanks.
2. line up the two pieces with the end piece on top of the main rod blank that goes to the reel. Let dry.
3. I coat the surfaces of both blanks with super glue and wrap 6# test braid around both by rotating the rod (rod handle on the ground) keeping the threads close as you wrap. (Fly tyers know what I mean.)
4. I coat the dried glue and blank parts with a glassy sealer so the line doesn't catch when cast.
Great save of a favorite rod. Thanks for the tip.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
I saved all my broken rods for years. Find a piece that fits inside the break several inches long. Use 2 part epoxy and put together. Then coat outside with epoxy and wrap with thread. Saving eyes off old rods to replace damaged ones using epoxy and thread . Hot glue and a lighter works great to replace rod tips.

My pleasure!
Bad enough expecting to pull a 2 lb fish ouf heavy cover with a light action rod and hearing it snap. Worse closing the garage door on one, not hearing it snap and then seeing it lying on the ground in two pieces due to carelessness! Time to get the glue and braid out.
