I seldom leave home without 2 dozen minnows in the boat. Sometimes that is all they want. Heck sometimes it has to be a extra small minnow before they will take it. They can be some picky critters.
back when some of the local folks had the want to take me to ketch crappie , mostly because they wanted to be dialed in on the how to and not actually there where to .
my first request would be for them to stop and buy at least a dozen small minnows before we met up at whatever lake . my mentoring and or tutoring of the how to included tipping your jig with fresh cut minnows .
to this day some of them still employ this technique , it is flat out deadly business on crappie to tip your jig with a fresh cut pc. of minnow , rarely will they spit it out and the amount of extra time they hold onto the jig can make all the difference in the world to folks in the learning curve .
if it were extra important to me to ketch the fire out of them every time I hit the water , it would be something I would for sure be doing to this day .
AND you cannot imagine the amount of debates over which half of the minnow was better , the head or the tail .....
and I personally think the head half of the minnow oozing the entrails and blood with them there eyes gets the primary vote btw
