Default Fiberglass Jon Boat W/ Shrouded Drain Plug

    Hi Crappie.com,

I'm working on getting a 12' fiberglass Jon boat into the Hudson and in addition to the transom drain plug leaking, I have an additional leaky drain plug on the bottom of the boat inside the middle seat which has a hinged access panel on the top of the seat. Does anyone know what this shrouded drain plug is called? I'm wondering if this is something I can just change the rubber seal on, or should I just use sealant? I have attached a picture of the bottom view.

    Thanks,

    Robin

Is it leaking around the shroud or the plug it self ?

I don't know. I put it in the water and when I took it out I noticed there was water when I had cleaned it out beforehand. I'm trying to figure out if it's a thing where I can fust replace a gasket or do I need to figure it out.

It probably is. The only thing I have seen about this type of drain is this youtube video. The guy says that it's so old that they don't make the parts, but he could be wrong, he seems to be wrong about a few things if you read the comments.

My opinion, that’s one way to do it. Your boat is glass and a different animal. I would try putting a rubber plug in it until you find out exactly where the leak is. Putting a plug through the transom isn’t super hard but is kinda messy working with fiberglass resin. The part with the flange could be put on the outside, even making one side flat to meet the bottom. Lots of options.

If you want it to stay dry use flex seal. It works.
