Livescope has taught me that a lot of the things I believed about crappie before livescope was not true.

I have found a lot of fishermen fish their jigs too fast. I have watched crappie form a circle around the jig when it is standing still, to watch them scatter when a quick jigging motion is made. As Ketchn said, I use a very slow movement of my jig once it has reached the fishing depth. I don't jig up and down. I slowly move it up a few inches and slowly let it down again.

However I have had days when it took a rapid up and down movement to get them to strike. And I have had days when I had to bump the jig into them to get them to strike. So I start out slow. If that doesn't work then I throw the kitchen sink at them until they bit or I give up and move to the next pile.

So I guess my advice is to try different presentations and different colors until you find what that group of crappie want. And when that group stops biting, you get to do the same thing again for the next group of crappie. Which just proves I don't know much about actually catching them but it is sure fun trying to catch them.

"...crappie feed up and wont hit anything that is below them..."... Cant tell you how many times I've lost track of my jig, or had something happen where I accidentally let the jig go below, only to look at the screen and watch them chasing it downward for feet until I realize what happened and stopped it, or one of them caught up to it and inhaled it. Not the norm but it has happened a TON. Conversely, I've had them follow it, and then I accidentally let it dip an inch or three and they'd quit following it.

Yes, that was one of the first things I learnt using livescope. However my biggest surprise was how crappie would run from a very small jig if it made a movement they were not expecting. I was also surprised at how many crappie could be in a place and still not bite.

First thing I noticed as well Ez , they often bolt away from a jig that doesn’t act like they want it to

Could be the natural reaction when movement is too fast. They think the minnow/jig is running from that 20 lb flat head catfish, so they bolt too.
