In his book "Hunting for the pot, fishing for the pan", Byron Dalrymple mentions the spade fish as being a hard fighter and good eating. Used small hooks and small baits.
Have you ever kept any to try in the pan?

Have not tried any. Person at the dock said they were good tasting, but not real bigguns.

Spadefish, not Sheepshead. Had more of of an angel fish look, not a sheepshead look. Spadefish is what the folks on the pier called it. Fought like heck though. Thought it was three time as big.

When I saw the title, I thought “ well, that’s a common thing”. Shoulda known it was his coozie getting around with him still in recovery stage. Windy down this way too. Looks like y’all are enjoying the area. Some pretty stuff. The Rain Tree Inn for some better than average dining. Not far from Ripleys museum, if that’s still there.

Looks more like a Angel Fish. Spade fish is correct according to my search.
