How deep a water do you try to set up in at night using a green light for crappie & type of areas you do it in?
2-3' deep and usually under a bridge.
Under a bridge is a good place for sure

I’ve not done it much but have over structure. What times do you go, setup, fish, come home? Can you do it all year?

Structure 4-6 ft deep. We aren’t allowed to fish under bridges here in Ohio or tie off so I try to find submerged trees.

Evidently I’ve been setting up in to deep of water because I haven’t had any luck getting Shad up. I’ve been setting up over brush 30 or so feet deep with a green light & still not getting much up.
You want to be shallower for sure. Good luck sir.

I thought you were asking how deep to place the light under the surface! Put the light out under a bridge just before dark and leave it there. In 30 minutes to an hour, you should have bait circling and crappie beneath them. Fish in depth that crappie usually visit or a little shallower. I would look for a bridge in 20' or less. If there is food around, they will come. Smaller bait usually appears first. Start fishing then.
