I like to fish alone. I'm not pressured to put anyone else on the fish. Plus I just enjoy some solitude.

I have two partners I fish with a lot. But I don't mind going solo if they aren't available. I do take the grandkids and kids when life doesn't get in the way. As for the rest, there was always someone wanting to go. Now I didn't mind taking them, but when it's time to go, I don't wait or negotiate to get them to go.

I like the company of others and really enjoy fishing with friends. Fishing can be a wonderful shared experience. I used to guide many years ago and that's not always the best time... Since clients are paying you, they expect you to give them the best day fishing they've ever had, no matter how the fish feel about it. I've also gone back to fish the same spot a couple of days later and found my "client" fishing on the spot we went to with one of his buddies. So, I don't love that part of it.

These days, there's only one seat in my kayak. I get to fish wherever I want, for as long as I want, at the speed I want, with whatever lure(s) and techniques I choose to, and there's something to be said for that.

99% alone, but not by choice. Family doesn't fish, I don't have any friends that fish, so my present cartop boat is designed for one person rowing. I built it for fishing solo and it weighs 27 pounds and is always ready to launch, wherever I am. If my daughter wanted to fish (once in a blue moon), or I had a new friend that wanted to, I'd gladly launch my 14' aluminum skiff on trailer.

But nope, it's me and the rowboat 99% of the time.

There's an old sayin' I think describes me 99.9999%of the time..."I'm alone even in a crowd". In the later parts of my military service I was the only night baker the Battalion had. I think that's where it started. After the service, I drove 18 wheels over the road, Alone again, naturally. Am engaged to a retired Trucker woman, who puts up with me, but like me don't really like groups of people in one place, so I usually go by myself, even though there may be others their fishing as well. Guess you could call me a loner...

By myself 99% of the time. I used to thing there was something lacking in me, maybe there is? But decided to just roll with it long time ago. It is great therapy, gives me some peace.

Have any of y’all ever been off the water for a period of time, and the longer it goes, you start thinking maybe it isn’t worth the hassle and expense? But you finally twist your arm into going, and driving towards the lake, as soon as you start seeing water through the trees, think
“Wow. I’m glad I went. Why was I putting it off?” Like a powerful feeling just washes over me, and I realize THIS is my happy place.

Almost those exact words were spoken in a conversation a couple of weeks go. Going to a tackle shop or someplace where there’s a group of like minded people such as ourselves, I can feel an elation or anticipation of a good time about to happen. A happy place is as good a name for it as I can come up with. Knowing that I’m going fishing the next day, it’s hard for me to stay in the bed. Almost always up early. Like today. I write this hoping y’all are headed for the water this morning.

I don't mind fishing alone most times. It's a lot more relaxing in general. No clock to watch on meet up and less pressure. If alarm goes off at 4:30am and I want to sleep another half hour it's all good.

I do enjoy company though sometimes. Especially with folks I don't get to talk to often. It's also a bonus to have someone back your boat in a go park the truck and then go fetch it loading up. Our ramps on the COE lakes can be pretty steep!

I don't care for company if they are of the mindset of instant gratification. Got a few mostly family members that will say. "If you get into the fish good call me"! I'm like you bet with a hidden eye roll.. If I invite company aboard I want them to come along to fish not just catch. Find a friend or two to fish with that will go again even if you got skunked the time before and you will have good company!
