Lost a good part of that muscle up top. Surely would have added some difficulty to swimming.
it truly amazes me to see wounds on fish of this caliber and them still being around trying to make the best of it, quite a few fish I ketch show signs of previous trauma that have grown over and healed up and are just faint scars .
this fish had a huge wound, that made me wonder if it would truly heal over and the fish would be managed by someone down the road that wondered how on earth it would have survived the attack.
one thing for certain , never underestimate the ability of the wildlife to survive serious wounds and even thrive as well. this poor thing didn't have much fight in it when it bit my jig, sort of thought hmm kind of lame for this time of year as it came out of the water ,and then I saw THIS!

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Good gosh! I can’t believe it got away! It might be a goner!

I caught a rainbow once that had a huge chunk out of his back almost to his spine!

It is truly amazing what they can survive. Here is one I caught couple of weeks back and I thought it was lucky and gave it a pass to swim on.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
They say if you are wounded in space, having zero gravity helps speed up recovery x10 fold because your body doesn’t fight gravity,,,makes you wonder if fishes experience that same type of healing
Wow those are some deep wounds.
