Default The good the bad and the ugly

Well I have one heck of a tell to share.

My second boat I ever purchased was a used 1996 Nitro bass boat with a 90hp Force on the back. I purchased it in 2010 and after 2 years I blew the outboard. I looked forever for replacement but ended up buying another boat. I parked the Nitro at my parents home and covered it. Both my parents are now deceased and we put their home on the market. It sold in 30 days and now I had to decide what I was going to do with the boat. I towed it home and parked out front. After cleaning her up real good I found that the transom was shot so I was at a lost as what to do with her. She was still a very good looking boat but I was not going to invest the money for a new outboard and transom. I already have two boats so I did not have enough space for a third.

I then came down with a sinus infection and the accompanying headaches were crippling for a few days. After getting back on my feet I go to retrieve the mail and the boat is gone. I felt both anger and relief at the same time. After a minute a just started laughing. Some thief solved my problem and he is gonna be disappointed when he finds the outboard has rod thru the block and transom is shot. There was no batteries, graphs are any accessories other than a paddle. The trailer is the only thing of any value. I hate thieves but this one did me a favor. I am expecting to get a call from the police advising they have found it abandoned someplace. In this case crime is not going to pay and it just proves that all that glitters is not gold.

I am glad to hear the thief did you a favor. You may find it returned.

Well, yo do have to laugh at that one, grainraiser. I think your theory that it will be dumped on some back road will most likely pan out. (Or maybe you will find it back in your front yard)!

Yep, be my luck get a call from fish & game. Your boat has been found good news. Bad it was nose up almost sunk in a public lake. We had a recovery team rescue it. That part cost $5000.00. Impound fees and towing to a lot an additional $2,000.00.

Hopefully they did you a favor, but maybe 6 months or better for you can be sure. Pretty tough to discard a boat hull legally, so no telling where it will turn up!

I would do a thief report. Then if it shows up dumped in the wrong place you will have evidence that it was stolen and you didn’t dump it.

I did report it so that very thing would not happen. I'm hopping it is not recovered but the chances of that happening is pretty slim.

Crime by thief is at an all time high and I read or hear frequently about someone stealing a utility trailer, RV, travel trailers etc that nothing is safe left outside anymore.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

I had a real fear when I bought a nearly new 25hp Mercury for my skiff. I knew it would be a easy target for theft since I have it parked in my rear driveway. After doing to research I installed these when bolting up the motor. Amazon.com

They would have to cut it off the transom if they really want it. So far so good.
