The only "pro" I can think of for using a baitcast reel is .... less coils & line twist.

Currently using spinning reels. I am looking at some of the in-line ice fishing reels, but have not pulled the trigger.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!

I have always used spinning reels but I do have some Eagle Claw in-line ice reels I have been wanting to try out also. I will give it a go once the spawn is over.

I still prefer baitcasters . I got tired of setting the hook with bail in the wrong position. Most of my fishing is vertical , but I still pitch with baitcasters.
If I were casting , I have spinners for that.

I use a cheap zebco baitcaster…I seem to be the only one. Lol for what it’s worth I prefer to hold the rod in my left hand (handle on the reel is to the right if your facing it) and pull the line with my right hand with the spool disengaged. When I do this I actually spin the rod around with the reel facing the lake (now reel handle is on the left) and when I pitch out my line never catches on the reel. Sounds unorthodox..because I guess it is but I never gave it much thought until now. I would say the only pro to having a baitcaster besides less line twist would be the amount of line it will hold….and I have 10 of them laying around collecting dust because I haven’t spider rigged in two seasons now.

Now that is very frustrating. This is why I took my spinning reel off.

Size 1 spinning reels for me. Bought mine from Fle-Fly a couple of years ago and they have proven themselves time and time again. On 14' rods. Smooth, great drags, ball bearing construction. Small and light.
