hey thats what I talking about! where on the hook do you place the nibble? seems like my buddies have different theories, top, bend of hook, or up by skirt?
So in my never ending quest to help those that seem to want it , here is a simple and quick regular in these parts scenario and the How to hammer them farm pond crappie in such conditions . Note the sketch to simplify the instructional bla bla bla part .....
Mind you this , the casts are long ones and you need a heavy float and we set the jig depth under a fixed float at about 3 foot below the float . We tipped the jigs with crappie nibbles because it was very simple to see you WOULD not get bit otherwise ......
Of course some scouting is involved in these quests and fish may up and move on with the flick of the light switch , but to be sure when the school moves up on the flat , it is on like donkey kong as fast as you can get them out of the water !
The fish were holding well in about 6 foot of water out in open water with no cover and the extreme wave action and added angler heavy twitching and slow dragging made them lose their fishee minds until the ice chest was full and it was time to say bye bye farm pond crappie , nice to meet ya .....
Until further notice KABOOM is the word ya"ll

Like the map but where do the dumb anglers stand so I know where to be?
quite obviously where I see them quite often , they ALWAYS stand on the sheltered from the howling wind side . so casting is easier, the main drawback to that approach is they ketch zero fisheez though AND then there is that super duper really frustrating part of watching lil ole me and whoever might be with me windmill the ever loving you know who who out of the fish out there in the gale force wind.... ....

I break most of the traditional rules on this subject , often run it up to the body and run a second to cover the hook point , semi weedless if you are light handed and then when the possibility of snags are not present and it is just about the FACT it has to be on the jig to get bit , right tight to the body ......
H is my mentor as you well know and he laughs so TERRIBLY hard at the folks on crappie forums that say scent don't matter ,,,,,just saying ....
