Default Red disappears first ? Colors important ? Presentation ?

What's your thoughts on the color red for fishing ? I read many times where red is first color to disappear in the water . They make red line and hooks for that reason or is it to attract fish ? Well today I fished deep brush piles in the howling wind using a 1/4 oz red hand tied jig. Kept a limit like usual and think the color did not matter . Last few weeks I have used pink, chartreuse, brown , and red , caught limits on them all . If you believe color matters that's fine but presentation trumps colors in my opinion .

Red works because it’s the color of blood unless it’s line then it disappears?

    Did that clear it up?

I think with the ability to place a jig in front of a crappie precisely it Matters not much on colors of jigs , of course I also think in some spots certain colors are definitely more productive than others.
Today I had one break off at the shoreline on black and chart and about 30 minutes later my bud ketched it again on a white jig with my jig down it’s throat .
They are sometimes fussy , but to be sure if it’s something they can see and looks remotely edible they are quite likely to give it a go. They spend most of their short lives eating and don’t overthink it like we tend to do

I have caught Crappie with a jig in their mouth before .They must not have a memory . But they are defensive during this time of year , more important than feeding at times .

Today the crappie were in deeper water feeding were we found them in high as heck wind , you had to make super long casts , it wasn’t likely it was due to the reproductive aggression scenario, they are just not very smart fish

Awesome tote of slabs. I’ve seen the charts with depth and even some video of colors in water. I do think color matters and water clarity affects it as well. I’ve fished the same brush pile with no success, change colors to catch a few, keep changing until one color the fish actively chase and go after. Now with livescope you can actually watch this behavior. I also think livescope makes it easier now to hold on top of fish and get the bite making color not as important as having it stuck in their face. So I don’t believe it’s just a yes or no color matters. I think it’s situational. Color matters until it doesn’t saying.

If I remember correctly red as it transitions on a solid object, it transitions to black. I fished red line for years before switching to Mr. Crappie line. I found a new shallow spool of Red Line in 10# test and started using it for leader material just to use it up. Fishing in the submerged trees here the little black clams nick your line quite a bit so you change your leader every trip. I use a lot of solid black this time of year, dingy water fishing, deep water fishing, maybe red and black are synonymous in those conditions. The Darth Vader Jig Takeum tied would be a killer for me in the same conditions.
