What are y’all using for line, leader, swivels etc and why?

8lb mono main line in hi vis using different colors on adjacent poles. #12 swivel to 6lb clear K9 fluoro leader with double jigs tied with loop knots. Swivel prevents line twist and loop knots provide jig freedom of movement.

I mostly troll crankbaits from a 12' kayak with 3 rods max. I run 15 Lb. braid (8 Lb. mono diameter) to a barrel swivel, to 4'-6' long leader of 8-14 Lb. fluorocarbon (the 14 Lb. line if stripers or catfish present), with a snap to change lures & untangle easily. On 7' medium action Ugly Stick Pro Lite rods and Diawa ADP 17 line counter reels.

Braid with 6 ft of 6# copolymer tied with double uni knot. No swivels. Double jigs using loop knots.

Same line set up for crankbaits. This uses a 2 oz trolling weight with swivels instead of double uni knot.

Why:
Braid and copolymer for sensitivity.
No swivels because the double uni goes through the tip eye better.
Loop knots for better presentation.
Trolling weight so I can adjust the crankbaits depth.

I troll with cranks. 4-6 standard medium 7 ft rod. Long line. 10 lb mono high vis with a snap. Various color and depth cranks til figure out the pattern for the day.

IF longline trolling .... it's one rod in hand 6'6" jig casting rod & a marabou Road Runner. (and I'm usually just going down a bank from one spot to another spot that's a good distance away) *found many a school of spawning fish doing that in the Spring !!

IF I'm Pushing jigs (4rods) ... it's two 14' BnM Capps/Coleman rods, line counter reels, 30# braid, 6# mono leader, 1oz trolling weight, all attached with duo-loc snaps. The other two rods are BPS Uncle Buck's Deluxe (collapsible) with 20# mono (everything else same).

The "why" is because they were the "Pushing" rods/reels/lines/weights I used (of theirs) when fishing with my Jig Pushing mentors ... and I bought 3 of the 4 outfits from one of those mentors when health reasons stopped him from fishing.

I troll year round and change back and forth from jigs to crankbaits depending on the conditions. I fish 8 rods most of the time when I’m alone and sometimes add another 2 if I’m fishing with someone.

Longlining: 6lb vicious panfish, BnM PSTs 16, 12, 8 & Ugly Stik 7’ medium spinning rods, loop knots on jigs, Slab Sauce

Small planer boards & jigs: 6lb vicious panfish, 7’ Ugly Stik medium spinning rods

Crankbaits (flatline): 12lb Berkley Big Game, mix of Daiwa and Okuma linecounters, BnM PST 16, 12, 8, & Ugly Stik 6’ medium trigger rods (with trolling weight/Off Shore tadpole, barrel snap swivel

Crankbaits (OR-12 planer boards): same as above but switching to 7’ Ugly Stick medium trigger rods x 8
