    Default Wildlife Day

I ended today with mixed emotions. Y’all didn’t know I was emotional, didja? Anyway, in many past posts you’ve heard me refer to an area close to home as “My Office”. A little cut off of the river that always held fish and I released most of what I caught so that we could play again some day. And play we did, many times. Big bluegill and crappie have been caught there along with Warmouth, Golden Shiners, redbreast, largemouth, mudfish and I’m sure others I’m not remembering right now. I went there today and as I started in I met a boat coming my way that I’d seen there before a few times. We talked a little and they said they’d done well there before, also that they ate their catch. A few trips back I noticed that my catch rate was decreasing but didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. Last time I was there I caught one good gill and two small crappie, very out of character for the place. Today I caught zip other than 3 good Warmouth. Now I know what has happened. I was seen there and they’ve come back with natural baits and had a few dinners off of my pet fish. I know that they aren’t mine and I had my time with them, near four years. All good things come to an end and I’m guessing the days of my office being someplace I could go have fun and not have to go a long way are over. I also know who to look for and leave when they come around. I have many good memories to carry along as I look for new fish to play with.

Today there was lots of wildlife that visited with me. Started out with the Turkeys and the wading birds nesting in the treetops. Lots of lizards around, a couple of them posing for a glamour shot.

These are the same guy in both pics, somewhere over 8’ I’m sure. Snowy Egrets are a favorite of mine, and they were out in force today. Their fine, almost wispy tail feathers were on a lot of Victorian ladies hats, just a great looking wading bird. Great blue herons, little blue herons and green herons were all working for their lunch. It’s pretty peaceful there and it sounded like someone blowing their nose behind me——-Manatee. And this one was friendly and next to and near my boat for about 20 minutes. Large too, near three feet wide.

While my office was almost devoid of fish, these Warmouth kept me busy. Pretty colors on a couple of the 5 or 6 I had caught before going home.

And as if they wanted to let me know that it wasn’t all bad today, a few good gills showed up to stretch my line and slip my drag.

Now about lunchtime and lots of boats running nearby, it was time for the house. Everyone was left for another day and in spite of losing my office I left with a smile. Hope to see you out and around soon, til then…..Skeet

I almost forgot one of the stars of the day. This LMB of about 14” came on the new 6” build and gave me a good time of it. Lots of drag pulling when I thought I had him done. A little better than a couple of minutes to get my hands on him. GREAT FUN!!Name: 518F2BCB-FC84-4EAE-BF6A-6D8AC616A1A3.jpg

I have a place like this. Don't catch a lot but, it is a relaxing place to just watch a bobber.

When you spend too much time in the office people get suspicious and want to know what's going on. Sorry to hear they found your spot. Love the pics of the gators and the manatee!
