Default NYS record 4.33 lb black crappie caught on my home lake Chautauqua.

Hey All. Yesterday this man caught what will end up being the new NY black crappie record. 4.33 lbs. I've always suspected 4 lbrs swam in Chautauqua. I've caught 3's myself from it and heard rumors of 4's but they were never documented like this one. For the record, all the 3's I caught were well before Crappie.com existed. I haven't caught anything near that in recent history, and the quality of the lakes crappie population has severely diminished compared to what it once was to my great sadness, but it obviously still has the potential for monsters.

Not my home lake, but I've been known to fish Chautauqua a good bit, especially for walleye and smallmouth. I know that they can grow fairly quickly with good water chemistry and a good food base, but it's still a bit hard to imagine that one evading capture for long enough to get that big. Really nice fish, I may have to try to make it up to Chautauqua myself soon.
