Default Slip Bobbers, Best Ones, or DIY

Love casting and shooting slip bobbers. I am trying to solve the problem of 1/32 jigs not pulling the leader (6# flouro on 8# braid) completely through the bobber tube all of the time. Don’t want to use anything (weight, swivel, etc.) between the bobber and jig. I am interested in learning to get small (1/32) jigs to easily pull line through bobber. Fishing ~3’ deep.

    • Thill bobbers I use have a hole at the top that is foam filled and drilled. Line after use cuts slit in the foam.
    • ordered some ESP slip bobbers, but haven’t arrived yet.
    • may try some Super Cast Bobbers
    • I am able and willing to make my own, if they perform best. But I have not sourced a supply for the somewhat strong center tubes. Can anyone help with this? I thought about turning dense foam blanks that I have on hand from fly fishing poppers. Thought about adding either rivets or small brass eyelets to top and bottom of tube.

I could be way off base here but do you need that heavy a leader? It seems like a lighter line would be pulled through easier by a light jig. May not suit your needs but thought I would throw it out there.

Leroy makes a fine ESB bobber. Just got another dozen in the mail. I love them. I used to use the Thill slip bobbers. They are good too.

I would try a small diameter line. You should have no problem with a 1/32 jig head pulling the line thru.

I could drop tp 4# leader, but fishing the banks of canals that are loaded with fallen trees and submerged brush. In our area Cypress and Tupelo tress grow off the banks and in the water. The water is filled with hookups. We use brush guards on our jigs to keep our sanity. LOL

Also order several Thill Pro Series bobbers in various sizes.

    I will give 4# fluro a try…

    Thanks, Dan

    KansasSlabs,
I am under the impression that European style floats don’t use the tube through the center of the float. I have made some with the wire ring at the bottom, but it wasn’t as nice to cast as the others where the line goes through the float from top to bottom.

Do any of the Euro floats have the line running through the center?
    Thanks for your input.

I'm guessing the reason your using the 1/32 is because it falls slow. But that light of weight won't pull the line through the bobber with excess twirlies in the line because it falls so slow. I would upsize to a 1/24 oz jig head or downsize to 4# line. There is also the option of putting a 2nd bobber stop and bead half way below the bobber and limit how far it has to fall before it sets. It also increases the odds of your bobber staying on the line when you break off.

Comal makes a split bobber with two pegs that limits the friction of the line...get em at Walmart.

I love those particular Thill bobbers. They are deadly when tuned just right. And you have the added option of pinning it up when you find the right depth.Name: Screenshot_20230407-211755_Chrome.jpg
