I opted for the Drotto boat latch system, for now, and bought the lock to go with it. Having the Drotto means I don't have to get out on the trailer tongue & winch the boat up the last 6-12" (as I had been doing in years past). But, the steps/handrail system is probably not all that far into the future for me, too.
I'm with Pappy. Drotto was the best money I ever spent on my boat. I am 73 years old and fish alone. I let my tailgate down before launching and and step over in the back of the truck and over onto the front of the boat and unlatch the boat. Loading, I drive up until it latches and then step over on the tailgate and pull out. Will never own a trailer without one.
