Happy looking pup. Certainly something special beyond expectations giving by the love of a dog. I say this as the little Bulldog is next to me on the couch snoring and the Shep is laid at my feet sleeping peacefully after our morning walk
Meet Charli
She is a girl and is four months old.
My beloved schnauzer passed last year. Heartbroken, I put off getting another dog. Then gradually I started looking at the pound puppies. I filled out forms and such and later set up an appointment to meet “Frizz”.
She was in the office area at the Humane Society and didn’t really pay us any attention as we talked to the staff. Then they let us in to “visit”. She was all licks. I wasn’t sure, but then we watched her walk over to the baby gate and hit the latch with her nose. Hit it again. Then again and it popped open and she went through like she owned the place. I told the wife she was too smart for her own good.
Well $350 later she was in the truck headed to her new forever home. It was raining so I figured house training would be tough, We showed her the doggy door. Played some and went to bed. Next morning, all on her own she went out the doggy door, and I spied her through the window. #1 then # 2 and back inside she came running. That was solid gold in my book I tell you. No mistakes in two weeks.
Well she is getting used to country living and has a large fenced yard to romp around in. She digs a little in the flower beds, and steals a few things, but only if they fit through the doggie door. LOL. Hasn’t chewed up anything. Just mauls stuff and runs around until she drops it.
We have been working with her and she comes and sits on command. The other evening my wife was on the porch and I had the screen door section of the sliding glass door in place. She wanted her Mommy, and she walked up, stuck her nose on the door and slid it open. Out she went. We couldn’t believe what we saw.
This morning she is visiting her new doctor. She came spayed and with all her shots, which would have cost me more than the $350 adoption fee. They also gave us food and a bag full of goodies for her. Frisbee, balls, etc.
She came from a really bad situation. Her sister had been blinded and her brother had multiple bone fractures. Abusive people. Someone intervened and they went to a shelter, then the Humane Society took them in. Nobody can say for sure what kind of dog she is. Some say beagle, some pitbull, some bird dog. The volunteer that had been keeping her did a great job of training, and we are very grateful that she does this.
While the shelter name Frizz seemed cute, I chose Charli and she seems to like it. I still miss Ole Booger Lips, but having a new puppy definitely helps. Nothing like the pitter patter of puppy feet and a face full of love.
