I call that a great day!! And hopefully a lifetime of fishing started.
My five year old granddaughter is staying with me today, this has been in the works for a couple months. One of the things she wanted to do was go fishing. Knowing she had a Barbie rod and reel I told my daughter to bring it along. After breakfast this morning and letting it warm up a little I tied a jig on her rod, grabbed some curly tails and headed to the neighbors pond.
She had never been fishing so I made the first cast and let her reel it in, once the jig was in she announced that she would cast it, okay. She really surprised me how well she did and on her third cast caught her first fish. I tried to get her to reel but she just backed up the bank LOL.
She went on to catch two more and broke her line on another before she got cold and was ready to quit. I don't know who is the most proud, she or I. Hed dad fished as does her ten year old brother. I talked to her dad, he will be taking her in the future. LOL

Good job!
I started both my kids around that age. They are still my favorite fishing buddies now in their 30's
