For my style of fishing, If a rod feels like it needs something to help balance it I don’t buy it.
I use 12 and 14 ft rods with a spool type reel. Why do y’all use spinning reels ? You aren’t casting. Only time I put a spinning reel is if I fish deep water during the winter.
And reeling 1/2 the line is required.

I find the spinning reels better balance my older BGJP rods and were less fatiguing when I’d hold 2 poles the entire trip. Plus, I use the majorly of my BJGPs to longline with in the summer.
The last order of mini baitcasters (line holders) didn’t hold up after about 3 trips. Had drag issues and nuts backing off.

There's no way to balance a rod without adding weight unless you cut the tip off far enough back to balance the rod. I doubt you'd want to do that.

All rods have a balance point. You find it by moving the location of the fulcrum.

Agreed. Was wanting to check the ideas of the group. If I do change one, I’ll likely epoxy a nut into the handle so that I can play around with adding something to the rear of the rod using leverage to reduce the amount of weight needed to better balance. That way I don’t affect the rod too much if I don’t like what I added and can try different setups.

The pole seems well balanced about 8” forward of the handle, but holding up there defeats the purpose of using a longer rod.

This is absolutely correct. But, the only way to move the location of the fulcrum is to add weight. Regardless of how you do it, anything that changes the fulcrum will add weight to the rod. Unless you can move the reel seat. But that would effectively shorten the useful length of rod.

Now, if you add something longer to the butt end of the rod, as the OP mentioned in the above post, that could work without adding as much weight. But it's still going to add weight.
