I have a 12 inch Lowrance unit mounted with one,but it’s bolted to fiberglass.
I’ve been using them for a long time and the only problem that I have had with them is the ball will crack. They always replace them under warranty

I have a Lowrance Elite 7 unit mounted right on the floor of my boat for a map unit while fishing. I wish it was 6 inches or so higher. I really didn't want to spend the money for a Ram mount just for this. While in WalMart yesterday, I saw their version of a Ram mount for only 19.99! Granted it's not made of aluminum, but it looked like it tightened up well. I wouldn't trust it for a bigger unit, especially on the console, but for this little unit in the floor I think I'll try one. Pics to come later.

Yep i'd like to see a pic of that mount. I'm always messing around & need some type mount at times.

Mostly vibrations and movement while under way, especially in a chop. My units were taking a beating. Couldn’t tighten the rams enough to stop it.

You will need some type of backing behind the plastic console, such as plywood or starboard. Use #10 machine screws with flat washers and locknuts to secure the base mount.

I'm using a short arm ram mount for 2 Garmin 10” units. So far, so good. I’m not running a 70 mph glass boat but it hasn’t Been a problem.
