I was in the same boat (So to speak) until last week. I've fished out of a 1998 Nitro 640LX with 2 -stroke 90HP for the last 12 years. Owned a small Tracker & johnboats before that. Always bought used & paid cash for the boats and all the upgrades that go with them. Over this winter I wanted to upgrade my electronics on the bow to a livescope. So I found the black Friday deal and bought that setup & installed it on my Nitro. I'm 60 years old & been retired for 4 years. Was blessed with a great job for almost 40 years. I always thought when I reached 62 & could start getting SS I would buy a new boat & I've been looking hard for the last year or so. Long story short, I ordered a 2023 Ranger 178C with a 75hp Mercury 4-stroke last week. The dealer gave me what I thought was a good trade in for the Nitro especially for what I paid for it. (Shout out to a fellow crappie.com member Yikes for the Nitro. It served me well) Quite simply I've reached the what am I waiting for point in my life. Everything we own is paid for including this new ride. So 3 long months from now I'm going to be fishing out of my forever boat.

Congrats on the new boat. Sounds like your doing it right and I don't blame you at all. Hope the new boat serves you well also.

lets buy that big boy and get off in the timber when its windy , should be a "breeze" .....
like stated "if" you can afford such equipment ,go for it ....
my avatar fish was managed right off the bank with my wife sitting in the truck above me with the a/c on ....
I do have a $100 john boat , that rarely gets used though
and can buy a 14 foot really nice rig with 25 electric start on it if I want ....$1500
been waiting on me to pull the trigger a long time is that rig ....
the problem for me on it is that, once you own one it becomes something to maintain
the tags, bearings, tires, gas, tuneups, impellor, permits and nonstop constant things they need when you use them get burdensome.
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales

Most that get into those long term financing deals never think about if they suddenly lose that job. I guess they think they will just come and get the boat and I will lose all the money I’ve put into payments up to that point. I’d rather buy used and have it paid off knowing it’s mine, but that’s just me. New stuff has never been my thing.

    Hey Mark,
Pull that thing to Taylorsville Lake and I’ll meet you there some day.
Take you to some spots that I fish. You will catch plenty and maybe some keepers.
I won’t be able to keep up with my 40hp Honda!!
    Congratulations
