The only way they going in my livewell is if they have a date with the filet knife.

They sure do taste good but most times i immediately turn them loose. I've never took a single crappie pic either. Would have to be one impressive crappie for me to take one after bass & striper fishing all my life.

I should have said also, I didn’t buy commercially made clips. I just bought stainless alligator clips off the web and used a small zip tie to attach lead bell sinkers. I fish a lot of tournaments and they have served me well. You can see mine laying beside fish in this picture. Some of mine have rusted a little and need to be replaced but you get the idea.

Resurrection from the dead...but I've got a couple varieties from Tackle Warehouse that have similar alligator clips and I inevitably find MOST of them at the bottom of the livewell when I peak in there. Your's seem to stay?

I have gotten away from using them altogether because of what I mentioned about some fish not tolerating the weights and dying on bottom of livewell. We haven’t had any fish die since going back to the old way of just putting them in livewell and pumping fresh water in.

But to answer your question though, mine stayed on pretty good on white crappie while on the lake. Throw a big black crappie in the mix though and they would shake weights off and in some cases be so wild they either stirred up the whites or knocked them off the whites in there with them. Some tournaments we fish are as much as an hour or hour and half trailer ride to weigh in and not uncommon for several to come off during trailering.

Yeah we're primarily blacks here. My 'new' boat, a Ranger Z21, has a venturi system in the livewell, if I get the parts in to fix the flappers in the valve. In my old boat, I had a homemade venturi system and it worked well for the most part. Occasionally we'll have whites in the mix, usually only two of the lakes, of the seven that we primarily tourny fish on, will you catch, let along bring a white to the scales. They seem to be a little hardier in the livewells but I do find them to be useful on those deep fish. I try really hard not to catch them over 25ft deep, but occasionally conditions call for it. I've got some Mueller BU-45 clips on the way to make my own.
