    Default Winter time longlining

Decided to try some long lining this morning since I hear it's great almost all year long.
So here's my dumb question of the day. How do you guys rig up your winter time long lining rigs? Mine are dragging bottom doing .6 to .8 mph.
Simple answer would probably be drop jig head size. But to what? And both jig heads to the same size or what? Can you keep fin spins and road runners off the bottom running slow? Or should I just go back to spider rigging when I want to go that slow?

Single 1/32 or 1/16 head and 2" twister tail or slider grub. 6lb mono. Cast out back of boat and stick in rod holder.

    1/32 jig 30' back 0.75mph is 6ft running depth
    50ft back 0.75mph is 7ft.

    1/16 jig 0.75mph
    30' back- 8' depth
    35' back- 9'
    40' back- 10'

Personally, I wouldn't call it Spider Rigging going that fast. That's almost my Pushing speed.

How deep of water are you Longlining in ?? If you're dragging bottom at those speeds, don't let out as much line (unless near the bottom is your target depth).

I'm not sure if a 1/4oz jig on bottom & 1/32oz jig on top (in a double jig rig) would separate at those speeds.

To be clear, though .... I don't Longline troll. I'm just comparing methods vs speed.

All my rigs that I had made up today were 1/8 on bottom and 1/16 on top. Trying to fish anywhere between 8' and 16' of water. I know if I creep the speed up a little bit I can get them off the bottom but I don't think they're ready for that yet.

My main concern would be .... at that speed, the jigs would still be more or less in a straight line, rather than one above the other. Also, of course, is how much line you have out. I'd shorten that up before I'd "creep the speed up a little bit".

Or you could raise the angle of your rod tips.
