    Default Rod holder question

I want to install rod holders on the gunwale of my jon boat like below

Jon Boat Gunwale Base – Monster Rod Holders

I saw a video where a guy mounted his really nice with rivnuts..Was wondering if I wanted to forgo his rivnut method and just use stainless screws as I don`t own the rivnut gun and all that.

Would a small pilot hole and stainless screws hold? I know one you drill thru the gunwale it`s hollow inside.

    Thanks!

If your not doing many rivnuts you can use appropriate size nut and bolt. Run the nut up on the bolt all the way. Run bolt into rivnut all the way down. Hold bolt with a wrench and take second wrench and tighten nut down to rivnut and keep turning it and it will set the rivnut. If you need more you run nut back up and run bolt back all the way down. And repeat. This works good to retighten them too.

What kind of boat are you mounting to? Does your gunwhale have a track on it by chance? If not I would be inclined to use nuts and bolts with blue lock tire. I’d you do use nuts and bolts I would also use an appropriate size washer on the nut side. I would als recommended use of a nylon insert nut.

There are many companies that make systems to mount rod holders in tracks should your Jon have a track system.

If your putting holes in the hull, make sure you seal the hole. Up to you how you want to mount them, both will work.
    I bought aluminum t-track from 8020.
Took some effort, however I got it bend to match the gunnel of my boat. Attach your brackets and slide them rod holders where ever you want.
