Once there was a Crappie
Who his mamma just called Ted
Twas the night before Christmas
And he was supposed to be in bed

Some minnows were swimming
All around the tree
So he had left his bed
Just to go look and see



There was a man outside
Just wetting a line for bass
So Ted went up to him
And said "Man you got no class!"

Ted boldly told that man
While flapping his big fin
Throw that fish away and
Put it in the trash bin



The man just looked at Ted
With amazement shock and awe
He could not believe
What he just saw

There was this big Crappie
And he could talk too
Big enough for dinner
For me and also you



Ted said a Crappie
Was the best fish you could eat
It is nice and tasty
And they have plenty of meat

That man put on a lure

Ted turned and ate it

Ted's friends came a swimming
To see what the commotion was
So many fish were caught
And the community was a buzz

The moral of this story
Is to do what mamma said

Twas the day before Christmas and out on the water. A 16" crappie sure would be nice and make me holler.
Jiggin' a jig in a school of slabs that would soon be frying in the pan were my hopes.
A monster giant slab from way down below took my homemade jig through the brushpile and l lost all hope,
but with patience and livescope I bring it up and I get a good look at a 14" crappie the first of the day, my jig goes back down its now time to play.
Another dozen crappie and its time to fly
Need to make it home for a Christmas fish fry.
It is obvious l’m no poet and now you all know it.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Shooting docks the Night before Christmas.
Out on the lake nothing stirs not even a mouse.
My jig shot back deep under a humongous boat house.
A tug at the line so startling and sharp made the line sing like a harp.
Made me jump and shook, struggling to set the hook.
With a bend in the rod and a smile on my face, the fight began as the drag started to race.
By the light of the moon very pale, the knot tied to my jig did fail.
From under the dock what did appear but a Giant white Crappie smiling ear to ear.
Swimming and singing ,MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and better luck next year

I don't think that I will ever see
another one as lovely as my tree.
Sunk there, fifteen feet deep,
on a submerged point that drops off quite steep.
On Christmas Eve, I quietly approach,
the sanctity of the haven I dare not broach.
To my dismay, I find it barren on my scope,
All the crappie were caught by some other dope!
