Brass inserts will help the line slide and not cut into the bobber
I was wondering what the best size ( 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1") of Thill Pro Series Slip float to use. Is the Crappie cork better ? It doesn't seem like it has the brass inserts but are they necessary ?
Thank You

Brass inserts are nice, they make every cast smooth and eliminate the tangles. Not necessarily needed though. I find myself using cheapo foam floats more and more, since i don't have to chase them down after i break off.
You probably want the 5/8 and 3/4, but it really depends on what you are putting under it and how you are fishing it. I will say i like their standard painted 3/4 oval "bubblegum" floats better, they seem to ride better in chop for me and fish well with a #5 split shot or a 1/16 jig. I use stick floats when there is no wind.
The length doesn't matter is much as the bobber being balanced to the jig weight. To have to put a split shot to balance the weight is a mistake and can cause the bobber to be slow to react on a "lift" bite. That's just my opinion. But I have been known to carry a pair of side cutters to pinch a little lead off a jig head to balance it perfectly.
